A shocking act of violence unfolded in Chandigarh’s neighbouring region of Tarn Taran district when a first-year law student allegedly shot a female classmate inside their college classroom before attempting suicide. The incident took place at Bhago Law College in Usma village, sending waves of panic across the campus. Police confirmed that the victim, Sandeep Kaur, died on the spot after being shot in the head, while the accused student, Prince Raj, was rushed to hospital in critical condition.
According to investigators and CCTV footage from the classroom, the students were seated normally and the class had not yet begun when Prince suddenly stood up, pulled out a firearm, and shot Sandeep at close range. Moments later, he turned the weapon on himself and collapsed to the floor. The chilling visuals show another female student frozen in shock before checking on Sandeep’s motionless body, while other students rushed in after hearing gunshots — only to flee in panic at the sight of blood and bodies on the classroom floor.
Police officials said a full investigation is underway to determine the motive behind the attack, including how a student managed to enter a college campus with a gun in the first place — a massive security failure that has raised serious questions. Sandeep’s mother broke down before reporters, saying she was called to the college without being told her daughter had been shot, only to arrive and find her dead. With both students barely out of their teens, the incident has reignited concerns over campus safety, rising violence among youth, and the complete lack of screening that allowed a lethal weapon into an educational institution.
