Hussain Sagar Water Level Crosses Danger Mark After Heavy Hyderabad Rains

Continuous heavy rains across Hyderabad have pushed the water level in Hussain Sagar lake above the danger mark, sparking concerns for residents living in surrounding areas. The official danger level of the lake is 513.41 meters, but the current measurement has risen to 513.63 meters. Authorities reported an inflow of 1,530 cusecs and an outflow of 1,525 cusecs, with water pouring in from Kukatpally, Banjara Hills, and Bulkapur drains. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) issued warnings urging people in low-lying areas to stay alert as more water continues to flow into the city’s main water body.

The situation has particularly alarmed residents in localities such as Kavadiguda, Gandhi Nagar, Ashok Nagar, Domalguda, Bholakpur, Aravind Nagar, and Sabarmathi Nagar. GHMC teams, along with disaster management officials, have been deployed to monitor conditions and prepare for possible evacuations if the lake continues to rise. Residents reported heavy waterlogging in nearby roads, causing traffic disruptions and heightening fears of urban flooding. Hyderabad’s history with Hussain Sagar overflowing during monsoon has once again put vulnerable neighborhoods on high alert.

Authorities have advised the public to remain cautious, avoid going near the lake, and follow official updates through mobile alerts and warnings. The Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services are on standby to provide emergency relief where needed. With intermittent heavy showers still battering the city, officials have reassured citizens that all precautionary measures are in place to safeguard lives and reduce flood risks. However, concerns remain that continued rainfall in catchment areas may worsen the situation in the coming days.
