In a massive breakthrough, the Mira Bhayandar–Vasai Virar (MBVV) police uncovered a large-scale drug racket in Telangana’s Cherlapally area, leading to the seizure of narcotics worth an estimated ₹12,000 crore. The raid, carried out at a factory operating under the name Vagdevi Labs in Navodaya Colony, exposed a sophisticated drug manufacturing setup. The factory owner, Srinivas Vijay Murthy Voleti, along with his aide, Tanaji Pandharinath Patwari, was arrested during the operation. Authorities also confiscated 5.79 kg of mephedrone (MD), 35,500 liters of chemical substances, and other materials used in the production of synthetic drugs.
This development comes after a series of earlier arrests linked to the racket. The case first came to light on August 8 when a Bangladeshi woman, Fatima Murad Shaikh, was caught in possession of 105 grams of MD by MBVV’s crime branch. Her interrogation led investigators to nine more individuals involved in the syndicate. The investigation trail eventually reached Hyderabad, where police discovered that the illegal factory had been secretly manufacturing mephedrone on a large scale for supply across different states.
Officials stated that the racket highlights the deep-rooted drug network operating across state borders and emphasized the growing challenge of tackling synthetic drug trafficking in India. With multiple arrests and the seizure of massive quantities of narcotics and raw materials, this raid marks one of the largest drug busts in recent years. Police confirmed that further investigations are underway to identify the wider network of suppliers, financiers, and international links behind this ₹12,000 crore operation.
