BRS Walks Out of Telangana Assembly Over Ghose Report on Kaleshwaram

Hyderabad: The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) staged a dramatic walkout from the Telangana Legislative Assembly on Sunday after the Justice (Retd) P.C. Ghose Commission’s report on the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project was tabled in the House. The party alleged that the ruling Congress government denied it adequate time to present its views and accused the treasury benches of deliberately suppressing the Opposition’s voice. The Commission’s report, running over 650 pages, detailed alleged irregularities in the project and recommended that the government take legal action against former Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao.

Reacting strongly to the developments, BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao and senior leader T. Harish Rao slammed the government for what they termed an orchestrated attempt to silence debate. “They gave us the Ghose Commission report, the NDSA report, and the Vigilance report, but when we wanted to speak, they didn’t even give us the mike. What is the Congress afraid of?” Harish Rao questioned. BRS leaders further dismissed the Commission’s findings, calling them politically motivated and lacking fairness. The party accused the ruling Congress of colluding with the BJP to permanently shut down what they described as Telangana’s lifeline project.

In a symbolic protest, BRS MLAs threw copies of the Ghose Commission report into a trash bin, branding it as “scrap” and “trash.” Rama Rao described the inquiry as a political drama, while Harish Rao alleged that Justice Ghose failed to follow proper procedures during the investigation. The walkout underscored the escalating political battle over the future of the Kaleshwaram project, with BRS vowing to fight both inside and outside the Assembly to safeguard what it considers the state’s most crucial irrigation venture.
