100-Metre Road Stretch Collapses Near Bhopal, Traffic Diverted; No Injuries Reported

A 100-metre stretch of road collapsed on the outskirts of Madhya Pradesh’s capital, Bhopal, on Monday afternoon, triggering immediate traffic diversions. The incident took place near the Bilkhiria area under the Sukhi Sewania police station limits, around 35 kilometres from the district headquarters, officials said. Thankfully, no injuries were reported as no vehicles were present on the affected stretch at the time.

According to Eintkhedi area Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Manju Chouhan, the road was constructed by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation (MPRDC). Authorities swiftly cordoned off the area and began assessing the extent of the damage to prevent any further mishaps. Preliminary reports suggest that the caving in might have been caused by soil erosion or underground water seepage.

Sukhi Sewania police station house officer (SHO) Rambabu Chaudhary said cracks were first noticed around 11:30 am. “We immediately stopped traffic movement to ensure safety, and shortly after, the road section caved in completely,” he stated. The damaged stretch, part of a key bypass connecting Indore and Narmadapuram districts, remains closed for repairs while engineers evaluate the stability of nearby portions.
